Plant Health Care for Weeping Willow, Diseased Oak, and Crape Myrtle Pruning in Queen Anne, MD
September 27, 2024
Homebuyers often seek properties that feature specific elements that appeal to them, and one such element can be large, attractive, mature trees. In the case of our recent client in Queen Anne, they had three particular desires: a Weeping Willow tree, an inground pool, and well-maintained grass. Fortunately, they discovered a property just down the road from their current residence that met all their criteria! They have developed a deep appreciation for the Weeping Willow. However, they were understandably worried when they learned that the tree was afflicted with Black canker. Despite their efforts to treat it, they were not achieving the desired results. They engaged our services to prune the affected branches 6" beyond the discoloration, which is the recommended Plant Health Care practice. The tree will also be fertilized and sprayed in the Spring, because Willows affected with Black Canker need to be kept as happy as possible to stave off infection. This means proper irrigation, fertilization, avoidance of wounding the tree, and proper pruning techniques. During our visit, we also pruned the three Crape Myrtles in the front yard, which always results in a remarkable transformation, and removed a dead Oak tree suffering from Hypoxylon Canker. While enjoying their morning coffee, the clients were faced with the unfortunate sight of the dead tree, prompting them to request its removal and the elevation of the trees along the property line. Given their meticulously maintained, weed-free, lush grass, we took great care in moving brush and logs. Now, they can appreciate the freshly pruned Crape Myrtles and Weeping Willow as they drive in, along with a beautiful tree line to enjoy during their morning coffee! It is noteworthy that trees can enhance a home's value by up to 15%, while the loss of a mature tree can diminish that value. Investing in Plant Health Care for your trees is certainly worthwhile!
